Matty Cash Snapchat scandal

Matty equally happy playing home or away!

I have a huge amount of time for Matty Cash. He’s had a fantastic season and it looks like he might well make the grade and become an influential player for Forest on the basis of what we have seen this term. He has a reckless abandon in the way he plays which serves him well on the pitch. If he can carry on the same way he’s going to be a huge success.

He’s young too. No doubt it must be very exciting to be in his boots, he must feel like he has the world at his feet and can do whatever he wants. No one can really begrudge him a certain amount of ‘fun’ and ’boys will be boys’ of course. However any female Forest fans that haven’t had ‘the wave’ from Cashy on social media were wondering what was wrong with them. We all know about the exploits of Rooney, Giggs and Co so maybe footballers have issues with boundaries. He might be used to hugging the touchline but he was regularly risking taking the ball out of play on both sides of the pitch rather than safely playing within the boundaries and within the spirit of the game in the process. So his latest, very public, indiscretion was all too predictable and probably not as bad as it might have been. Who knows? Maybe he has lots of long shots and rarely scores or maybe he’s actually more prolific off the pitch than on it? He’s certainly been shooting on sight at every opportunity so his outing was inevitable.

Hopefully this latest episode has taught him a lesson though. It could have been so much worse. The girls involved have come out of it with dignity and behaved in a way Matty could well learn from. There are plenty of ‘loose women’ out there available for a randy young footballer but not everyone falls into that category. Thinking that is where he got it all wrong. He thought he could treat these two girls like that and expected them to be stupid enough or willing to play along. Big mistake. They were actually a bit higher up the evolutionary tree and had higher standards than he anticipated. It reminds me of the criticism of America. That it’s gone from barbarism to decadence without passing through civilisation. It seems that maybe he’s made that leap a little too quickly without figuring out the ‘right way’ to do things.

Who knows if he’s shocked or surprised by the way things turned out. Hopefully, if nothing else, he’s learnt his lesson. Whilst everyone can cut him a degree of slack and give him the freedom to live his life as he wishes, he’s wrong to expect the rest of society to play by his rules. His standards are actually short of most people and he has to either raise his game or seek out people who are prepared to play his game and prequalify them better. A professional footballer with the world at his feet should be sure he’s filtering out anyone who might cause them troubles the likes of Rooney, Giggs, Gillespie and others have encountered. You have to have a filter. Quality over quantity. He has so much ahead of him and so much time. Be patient. Don’t mess up what you have Matty. Get your priorities straight. You have a huge future ahead of you and only you can screw things up. Hopefully this is it. Better that it never happened but it, inevitably, has. Figure it out and don’t let it happen again and maybe it’ll soon be ‘yesterdays chip paper’.

Count yourself lucky Matty! You might feel like it’s been a disaster in which case get your chin up, you’ve actually been cut more slack than many would because you’re well liked for what you can do on the grass. You might feel like it’s no big deal. Wrong. Consider this a lucky escape. Footballers are often guilty of reckless or drunk driving and this episode falls into a similar category. You’ve had a lucky escape and avoided a car crash. If these girls had been a little more immoral, as you hoped, you might have found yourself extorted, subject to a bigger sting or even stuck with them for good which would have been the worst possible fate if they had been that sort. You were lucky they were nice enough to just think you deserved to be taught a lesson rather than having to pay for it too. Learn the lesson, adjust your filters or at least make sure the girls you want to play with share your morals before the ball’s in play. It’s your choice, but just try and sell yourself a bit more to your target market or this will only happen again.

He’s a great young player with a bright future and can be allowed to make some mistakes. As he will know only too well though you have to learn from them on the pitch. The same applies off it too. Hopefully he sets his sights higher and this is a one-off. His card has been marked now too, his name is in the book and he he mustn’t be reckless or it could be much worse.
